Call for Proposals

Poet-in-Residence (PIR) October 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015

The Arc Poetry Society seeks proposals for the position of Poet-in-Residence. The 2014/2015 program year will represent Arc’s sixth virtual residency: Elise Partridge, Roo Borson, Rob Winger, Tim Bowling and Sylvia Legris have previously held the position.

 

 

Position Description

The nine month residency will consist of the following:

  • This is a virtual residency, so the PIR will not be required to relocate.
  • The PIR will provide a minimum of ten hours of mentoring per month of the residency, serving a minimum of ten poets per month;
  • Tailored mentoring will include written assessments of approximately 250 words, a tailored recommended reading list, and phone and/or email consultation where necessary;
  • The PIR will undertake to clarify with each participant in the program that the opinions are those of the PIR and not those of the Arc Poetry Society or of Arc Poetry Magazine;
  • In order to prepare a thorough mentoring statement, the PIR may request a larger sampling of? mentee work where necessary;
  • The PIR will create ten to fifteen printed pages of original work for publication in Arc;
  • The PIR will recommend, based on the PIR’s sole analysis, a selection of ?mentee work for possible publication in Arc; and
  • Up to one week of travel and readings to promote the launch of a related issue of Arc.

 

Remuneration

The contract fee for the poet in residence will be $9,000, pending funding.? Payment schedule is negotiable.? Standard writer’s fee rates will apply for publication in Arc.

 

PIR Qualifications and Eligibility

Candidates will be Canadian citizens with a strong background in the practice of contemporary poetry.? The PIR will have at least one full-length collection published by an established Canadian publisher.? Members of the Arc board of directors or their family members are not eligible to apply.

 

Application

The application for the residency will include a statement of mentoring philosophy and a summary of the proposed writing project totaling a combined maximum of 1000 words.? Please supply three references; do not supply reference letters until requested .? Reviews of published work are encouraged but not required.
